Parker VH Grade Side by Side Double Barrel Shotgun, with Deluxe Carved Stocks
Serial no. 150549, 12 gauge, 28-inch side by side barrels, with matted rib, the breech
marked: [arrow] PARKER BROTHERS, MAKERS, MERIDEN, CONN. VULCAN STEEL [arrow]; top of
watertable with VH within cartouche, and V, with serial number (beneath left barrel);
patent dates stamped on water table beneath right barrel. German silver bead front sight.
The boxlock action engraved PARKER BROS. on each side. On bottom of barrels at breech, V
within circle and 36, as well as B 1 1/2, and J.G. within circle, as well as X and &.
Blued finish, with case-hardened breech, forend mounts and thumblever. Double triggers;
checkered splinter style forend; checlered pistol-grip stock with composition grip cap;
German silver escutcheon shield inlay on bottom of buttstock; automatic safety,
extractors, composition buttplate with checkering and PARKER BROTHERS marking, and motif
of retriever with bird in mouth. The buttstock profusely carved in aftermarket decoration
of leaves and game birds. The forend with relief-carved leaf motifs. PAYNE carved on
bottom of stock, and may be signature of the carver.
Condition: Fine; 95% blue on barrel; 45% on triggerguard; traces
case-hardening on forend (except 80% and fading on inside surfaces), and 50% on frame;
fading on top lever. Light wear to some steel parts, primarily breech, and minor spots of
minute corrosion; minor surface dent on right barrel approximately 11 1/2-inches from
muzzle. Excellent bores. Stocks with old varnish, likely dating from date of relief
carving; minor storage marks.
