"GERMAN K98 MAUSER SNIPER RIFLE. SN 18181. Cal. 8X57 mm. Rare sniper on a "bcd/45" action with 24" tapered rnd bbl, barleycorn front sight with hood, 2,000 meter rear sight, mounted in a beautiful laminated wood stock with short forearm with stamped metal bbl band & sheet metal front band & bayonet lug with cleaning rod. It has a stamped triggerguard/floorplate & a checkered sheet metal buttplate. Receiver is marked "bcd/45" & bbl, over chamber area is marked "avk Bt" with eagle "13" Waffenampt & another small proof. Receiver ring has a small Nazi eagle on right side with a "1". Right side of butt has Nazi eagle over a large "H". All metal is finished in a fine satin gray phosphate finish. Left side of receiver is mounted with a long rail that bears eagle "359" Waffenampt & is fitted with an orig long rail mount numbered "89722" containing a Dialytan 4X scope "bek" code with serial number "77480". This is a late war issue sniper in superb condition. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, probably unfired, all numbered parts are matching except scope & mount as noted above. Metal on rifle retains virtually all of its orig, untouched phosphate finish with only extremely minor bright spots on bolt body. Wood is sound with a bright, clean, orig finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Scope & mount retain most of their orig blue with a few minor chemical spots toward rear of tube & on rings. Optics are crisp & clear.
